Once upon a time, the robber barons and the industrialists would meet in Newport at their summer cottages for a little R&R. There would be satin gowns and parties until dawn.
Well, as it turns out, some people still live this way. There are balls and galas and private celebrations where the grande dames wear their couture and their finest jewels - as every one knows, especially in these times, that it's considered gauche to wear the real stuff out in public.
